Ah!! a Strike!!

Recently, I was visiting Kolkata. A certain thing about the city got onto my nerve big-time and I couldn't help but write out my angst. You see oft I would hear the elderly in the city asking the youngsters as to why are they leaving Kolkata and moving out? I ask you, if your workday is to be determined by whimsical political parties or unions with political back ups, then would you really work in such an environment. Chances are NO!! You won't.
Still groping in the dark? Well let me fill you in.
30th October, 2007: CITU calls a bandh - reason: I'm sorry I couldn't be bothered by it.
31st October, 2007: Trinamool Congress calls a bandh - reason: to protest the violence at Nandigram. Valid point... the happenings at Nadnigram is honestly despicable. More on that later. The moot point is calling a "Bandh" and thus hampering the regular life of the civilian is not the way to protest. They at the end are not asking the civilian to join the cause, but by terrorizing them into giving in to their demands - "STAY INDOORS". Hmm... does that make a protest successful? I've got my doubts. The bandh calling tradition was started years ago. The purpose then was, I hope properly served. But over the years the bandh has been called with flimsiest of pretexts. As a result, the common man loathes the bandhs. But he/she cannot venture out after footing a repair/medical bill might be more difficult for him/her than staying at home. And all this is happening in Bengal despite the Supreme Court ruling against such activities. WOW!!!And they ask us why we don't wanna go back? For what?? So that we get to enjoy such uncalled for holidays?? They need to understand that the generation NOW doesn't believe in strikes like this. They believe in hitting where its hurts the most and the way certain people react to such situations can leave you mortified that you had declared yourself to be Kolkatan. The young Turks believe in "Just Do it". No sitting around and protesting rather stepping up and doing something. That's the mantra of today's Bong Young Blood. Who is listening??

P.S: Check out the reaction of certain individuals at The Telegraph, a Kolkata daily.

U know i have a different view about this . yes ! Nandigram violence was outrageous . yes , band called was even more hideous , making the common man face the music . but the larger question is why are the youngsters leaving the city . i mean common man ! they can actually stay there in the city itself and stop the things happening if not resist them . yes , we don't believe in strikes . but u know the elderly have their point too . why are they leaving the very city they lived in ? and when stuff happens , instead of staying there to control it , why are they running away is what they meant ?
and yes , i have read the telegraph issue . things are bad .

there is nothing u can be doing except stay put and fight ! very easy said than done i know , but you just cant run away if the situation turns bad . there are bomb blast in Mumbai and you will run from there . riots in Gujarat you run from there . Maoists in Assam , you run from there too . terror gripping th south too and you run from there too . you will have to run from India ? and if its not enough terror makes its strike everywhere . where do u run ! ?
